In der Geschichte Nymphenburgs spielt das majesttische Wappentier im doppelten Sinn eine Rolle: Zum einen ist es eine Reminiszenz an die bayerische Kultur und den Standort der Manufaktur, zum anderen verweist der Lwe auch auf das Haus Wittelsbach und seine Herrschaft.
