This was known as a HJ youth overseas cap or "Allgemeine jugend Sommer-Mütze" (General HJ summer cap)

It is engraved:

German soldiers were trained to grasp either the handhold on the underside of the weapon or the magazine housing with the supporting hand to avoid feed malfunctions

and is in excellent condition

The shell is maker marked with a stamping on the underside of the rim that reads ZA 12. This is an wonderful example of a genuine USGI Great War helmet. The best feature of all is the original hand painted hospital insignia of a white circle with a red "H". This helmet has no dings or dents
