Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich I, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central inscription of FR VERDIENST (FOR SERVICE), within a circular oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 40. 58 mm in diameter,
