During the 1930s, various companies in Germany such as Elastolin, Lineol, Marklin, Tippco and Wiking began to make numerous toy soldiers from painted "composite" materials, and later on from plastic. They mostly made German soldiers, but they did also produce soldiers from other countries, so that more complete battle scenes would be created. They were also generally available from each maker in several different
